Phokeng, 21 July 2021: It was with great sadness that the Royal Bafokeng Nation learned of the passing on Tuesday, 20 July 2021 of Mr Eric Nkele (54), Secretary of Council for the Royal Bafokeng Administration (RBA) from COVID-19 related complications.
Mr Bashi Makgale, Chief of Operations in the Office of Kgosi, commented: “Eric was a very reliable, committed and dedicated individual who went beyond the call of duty. He modernised Council procedures and operations by ensuring that operational protocols were drafted and implemented.
“He was well known within the Royal Bafokeng Nation and beyond for his interest in and support of football. He was District Secretary of the Bafokeng District Football Association and was a member of the North West Central Executive Committee of the South Africa Football Association (SAFA).
“His contributions professionally and socially were always much appreciated, and he will be sorely missed.”
Mr Nkele obtained a Diploma in Education from Taung College of Education and several qualifications subsequently. Prior to joining the RBA, he worked in the education, mining and retail sectors.
He is survived by his wife, five children, father and five siblings.
Funeral arrangements, curtailed in terms of the requirements to the current Level 4 COVID-19 lockdown, are being finalised.
