Honouring the legacy of Mmemogolo; building a positive future for the Royal Bafokeng Nation

08 July 2021, Phokeng: The Royal Bafokeng Administration is pleased to announce the establishment of its new Office of Community Development to live out the legacy of Her Majesty, the late Queen Mother of the Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN), Dr Semane Bonolo Molotlegi (Mmemogolo).

The Office of Community Development will continue the work carried out by the Office of Mmemogolo, a department within the Office of Kgosi. Anchored by its intention to alleviate poverty in the Bafokeng villages, the Office champions projects to sustain the livelihoods of women and children. The Office will report directly to the Office of Kgosi.

Mmemogolo played a pivotal role in helping the RBN develop into the modern community it is today. After her passing in December 2020, she left a legacy of strong advocacy for the holistic development of communities – focusing on education, health, economic activities, and general wellness.

This work will now be led by two Community Development Officers – Mme Maidi Thereza Molotlegi and Mme Rebecca Monica Tumagole, both selected for their deep knowledge and strong track record of tackling issues facing our community.

Mme Rebecca Monica Tumagole has dedicated 28 years of her life to nurturing and educating young minds and is a long-standing member of the Bafokeng Woman’s Club. Furthermore, she has been an ordained priest for 21 years and is currently the leader of the Anglican Church in Phokeng.

Mme Maidi Thereza Molotlegi obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences at the University of the North (now University of Limpopo) in 1970. She has 21 years of social work experience and a combination of skills that will be greatly beneficial to the Office of Community Development.
